Denise Burton-Cole to do question and answer at Sunday’s Sheffield DocFest screening of Obsession

Beryl’s daughter Denise will be answering questions from the audience after Sunday’s (June 14) screening of Obsession: The Beryl Burton Story at Sheffield DocFest.

Denise will join director Stuart Pollitt at the Showroom Cinema to talk about her feelings on the film and the experience of being involved in telling her family’s story.

The World Premiere of Obsession: The Beryl Burton Story played to a sold out Curzon cinema in Sheffield. In the audience was Beryl’s brother Jeffrey Charnock, Sue Rogers, who appears in the film, and author Jeremy Wilson.

Following the film, a question and answer session included a contribution from Jeffrey Charnock, who told the audience he was delighted with how honest the film was and said it brought back a lot of memories for him. He thanked the filmmakers for their work in telling Beryl’s story.

Among the audience were riders who raced against Beryl including a competitor in the famous 1969 24-hour race.

World Premiere Sold Out

The World Premiere of Obsession: The Beryl Burton Story is sold out. No more tickets are available for the June 11 screening of the film.

Thanks to everyone who is attending. Several stars of the film will be at the Thursday and Sunday screenings, as well as some of Beryl’s family.

Obsession: The Beryl Burton Story will have its World Premiere at the acclaimed Sheffield Documentary Festival in June.

Two screenings are available for purchase now on June 11, at the Curzon Cinema, and June 14, at the Showroom Cinema.

The filmmakers will be attending the showings along with some stars of the film.

Audiences will get the chance to ask questions following both screenings.

Director Stuart Pollitt said: “It’s a huge honour for the film to be selected for a screening at the UK’s biggest documentary festival. It’s great to have a premiere in Beryl’s native Yorkshire. We can’t wait for people to see this film and learn more about Beryl’s story.”

Restless has been working with Beryl’s daughter Denise Burton-Cole and Jeremy Wilson, the author of the award-winning Beryl: In Search of Britain’s Greatest Athlete, on the definitive documentary.

We’ve been filming across Yorkshire and the rest of the UK speaking to friends, family, rivals and experts about Beryl’s story.

Contributors include Maxine Peake, Alistair Brownlee, Lizzie Deignan, Dame Sarah Storey and Phil Liggett.
